Former contestant on ‘The Bachelor’ Matt James Shares His Thoughts on Mom Patty’s Role on ‘The Golden Bachelor’

Viewers of ABC’s dating franchise will get to know Patty more during her son’s season of “The Bachelor,” which aired in 2021. Following that, they will be able to see her explore romance with Gerry Turner on the new spinoff series.

Former contestant on “The Bachelor” Matt James is showing his mother, Patty Cuculo James, his support as she pursues the love of Gerry Turner, the first-ever lead on “The Golden Bachelor” on ABC. Gerry Turner is the show’s namesake.

Cuculo James, age 70, was one of the contestants on The Bachelor’s season 25 that aired in 2021 and starred her son as the lead. On Wednesday, the 22 women who will compete for Turner’s final rose were unveiled, and Cuculo James is one of them. Matt James, who was the first Black Bachelor in the franchise’s history, is still dating Rachael Kirkconnell, the woman who gave him his final rose, and he is hopeful that the series may lead to the development of a romantic relationship between his mother and another participant.

On Wednesday, James uploaded to his Instagram Stories with the caption, “I ccc uuu mama,” along with a photo of his mother taken from her show profile. In addition to that, he included an emoji of a burning heart.

Cuculo James, for her part, shared promotional photographs of herself from the show The Golden Bachelor on her Instagram account with the message, “Sooo exciting…”

In the bio for her program, Cuculo James is described as a retired real estate executive who resides in Durham, North Carolina, and as someone who has not been in a relationship for close to 30 years. (After she and the children’s father, Manny, divorced while the boys were small, she took custody of Matt and John, his older brother, and raised them.)

In a remark taken from her show website, Cuculo James states, “I want to meet someone who loves and cherishes me that I can live out my golden years with.”

A new promotional video for The Golden Bachelor was published on Wednesday, and in it, she makes a cameo appearance and says, “I’m looking for someone that cares about family like I do.”

Turner, who is 72 years old and from Indiana, was a restaurateur for many years before retiring. He has two daughters and two grandkids. Toni, his high school love and wife of 43 years, passed away in 2017 due to complications from a bacterial infection. They had been married for those 43 years. Contestants on his show, which will air on September 28 and immediately follow the start of the ninth season of Bachelor in Paradise, will range in age from 60 to 75 years old.

“What I look for at the age of 70 is different from what I looked for when I was in high school and college,” Turner stated during an appearance on the “Men Tell All” segment from Charity Lawson’s recently ended season of The Bachelorette. “Therefore, I have faith that I will discover the one who will complete me and bring me back to my whole self. And I believe that we will be able to knit together a fantastic partnership. On the other hand, I don’t believe it will be anything like the relationship Toni and I had. And I don’t think that going about it that way would be the correct thing to do.”
