Canada’s company ethics czar says it has launched a fact-finding investigation into allegations that Zara Canada Inc. is working with corporations that use pressured labour in China.
The Canadian Ombudsperson for Accountable Enterprise says its investigation into the attire firm stems from allegations made by 28 civil society organizations.
The organizations alleged in June that Zara Canada has provide relationships with three Chinese language corporations recognized as utilizing or benefitting from the usage of Uyghur pressured labour.
The ombudsperson says Zara Canada has denied the allegations and that the grievance is inadmissible as a result of the alleged human rights abuses don’t come up from its operations.
The ombudsperson added Zara Canada declined mediation, saying it doesn’t have a business relationship with any manufacturing facility within the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Area.
